Welcome to Leg 3 of the
2000 Vents Program. Let us take a minute to introduce our selves to our
cruise followers.
My name is Mary Beth Sands
and I am a teacher at Franklin High School located in Livonia, Michigan,
just outside of Detroit. I have been a teacher at Franklin High School
for five years teaching Chemistry, Math and Biology. Having done much
boating on the Great Lakes I was interested in coming to the Pacific Northwest
in order to participate in oceanographic research. I am honored to be
a Teacher-At-Sea serving on the Ronald H. Brown for the next two weeks.
Hopefully I will be able to return to Michigan with data, pictures and
video collected while at sea.
Hi, I am Carol McDowell
and I am an earth science teacher at Jamestown High School in Williamsburg/James
City County, Virginia. I am very excited to be a part of the Teacher-At-Sea
Program since my students have been following the progress of the RONALD
H. BROWN and its research in Meteorology and Oceanography for over a year.
To actually be where the sea floor is actively venting and moving apart
is awe-inspiring. We have departed Victoria, British Columbia and have
successfully avoided initial bouts of seasickness. We have arrived at
the Axial Volcano and are collecting moorings off of the ocean floor.
Stay tuned for more updates
from your Teachers-at-Sea.
