The
NeMO Net surface buoy deployed from the Thompson. The buoy allows
real-time communications with the RAS and BPR instruments on the seafloor
to a satellite.
Today's activities were dedicated to mooring operations. The BPR (Bottom
Pressure Recorder) and buoy for NeMO Net were deployed and data transmissions
from the seafloor began. The NeMO Net buoy relays the data to shore via
satellite. The data is displayed on the NeMO
Net site and shows the temperature readings at Virgin vent from the
RAS as well as the pressure data from the BPR.
Instrument
recoveries included two current meter moorings that had been out since
last year. During night operations a CTD (conductivity temperature depth)
cast was taken and EM300 multibeam bathymetry was collected for a mapping
survey.
