NeMO Net Buoy | |||
The NeMO Net buoy is the hub of the communication system. It talks with seafloor instruments via acoustic modems that communicate at a rate of 600 baud. This rate is adequate for the limited amounts of data that need to be transfered at NeMO and allows data packets to be embedded multiple times for redundancy and increased reliability. The buoy communicates with the instruments on the seafloor every hour. The NeMO Net buoy links to shore via the Iridium satellite phone system, which communicates at a rate of 2400 baud in both directions. View movie of a NeMO Net buoy deployment: Small/MPEG
