Dr. Gregory C. Johnson has worked at PMEL for nearly 30 years. He co-leads PMEL's Global Observations of Biogeochemistry and Ocean Physics program, leading PMEL’s Core and Deep Argo profiling float projects. He is author of more than 150 scientific publications, with an h-index of 59 according to Web of Science, many on the ocean’s roles in climate. He has served multiple years as the editor of the Global Oceans chapter of NOAA’s annual State of the Climate report published in BAMS and as a lead author for the IPCC WG1 AR5. He has been a chief scientist on multiple oceanographic research cruises. He is a fellow of both the American Geophysical Union and the American Meteorological Society and has received both the Henry Stommel Research Award and the Georg Wust Prize. He has leadership roles in the U.S. and International Argo and GO-SHIP. Dr. Johnson received his Ph.D. in Oceanography from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
