Dr. Diane Stanitski is Deputy Director of the NOAA Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory (PMEL) in Seattle. In this role she supports an amazing team that makes critical environmental observations, deploys innovative technologies, and conducts groundbreaking research to improve weather and climate predictions, fisheries management, and coastal resilience. Diane also serves as co-chair of the US Global Change Research Program’s Observations Interagency Working Group where she coordinates NOAA's climate observing efforts with other federal agencies. She moved to Seattle in 2022 from Boulder, CO where she was Deputy Director of the NOAA Global Monitoring Laboratory.
Before joining NOAA, Diane was a professor at Shippensburg University in PA, specializing in meteorology, atmospheric science, and environmental science. She also taught climate courses at the US Naval Academy, University of Colorado at Boulder, and Montana State University. Diane earned her Master’s and Ph.D. in Geography at Arizona State University where she specialized in boundary layer climatology.
