May 2, 2008 The following paper was published in Science Magazine Stramma, L., G. C. Johnson, J. Sprintall, and V. Mohrholz. 2008. Expanding Oxygen-Minimum Zones in the Tropical Oceans. Science, 320, 655-658, doi: 10.1126/science.1153847.  The article generated hundreds of media articles in TV, newspapers, and radio.

December 15, 2006 Science magazine ran a Review article entitled, “ENSO as an Integrating Concept in Earth Science,” by Michael McPhaden, et al.

November 30, 2006, B. Kessler interviewed by KING-5 TV about Seattle’s rainiest month and its possible relation to El Niño.

January 2006 issue of Discover magazine names the Nature article: “Anthropogenic ocean acidification over the twenty-first century and its impact on calcifying organisms,” as Number 38 of its Best Science Stories of 2005.

December 20, 2006 President Bush signed H.R. 1674, the “Tsunami Warning and Education Act,” which authorizes the DOC/NOAA to (1) operate a program to provide tsunami detection, forecasts, and warnings; (2) conduct a tsunami hazard mitigation program; and (3) maintain a tsunami research program.” Fox News on-line reported the story from an AP feed.

December 5, 2006 Government Technology ran a story on the upgrade of NOAA Tide Stations to better detect tsunamis.

December 1, 2006 NOAA Magazine article on the deployment of the first tsunami detection buoy in the Indian Ocean. Story also highlighted in the Under Secretary’s Message on December 1.  BBC News,Government Technology magazine, and Yahoo News also picked up on the news release.

November 16, 2006 Eddie Bernard spoke with Ed Muir from Northwest Cable News about yesterday’s tsunami event.

November 14, 2006 Marguerite Kistler FACES Magazine (A Cobblestone Publication) a magazine for junior high students, asked Vasily Titov a few very general questions about tsunamis for an upcoming article on the West Coast.

Honolulu Star Bulletin.com ran an article entitled, “Tsunami alert passes after quake near Japan.”

May 9, 2006 History Channel’s debut of “West Coast Tsunami” on its Mega Disasters series.   PMEL worked with the producers and gave interviews and general information for the production.

May 3, 2006 large earthquake in Tonga generated a small tsunami which was picked up by the PMEL easy-to-deploy DART® test buoy off Hawaii.  Reporters who called for information included: ABC, MSNBC, and various FOX News organizations.

December 7, 2005 Vasily Titov quoted in KOMO TV-4 (ABC) and The Seattle Times interviews regarding the recent article on tsunami wave height by University of Rhode Island researcher, Stephan Grilli.

August 25, 2005 article entitled “The Global Reach of the December 26, 2004 Sumatra Tsunami,” by Vasily Titov, et al., appeared on Science Magazine’s Science express web site.  Article published in the September 23 issue of Science (Vol. 309 pp. 2045-2048. August 17, 2005 Glenn Farley did a piece on the upcoming deployment of the DART II buoys.  The story will be shown on KING-5 TV 5 p.m. news broadcast.

August 11, 2005 Eddie was interviewed by Cheryl Pellerin, Science Writer, Department of State, about the Intergovernmental Coordination Group for the Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning System meeting in Perth, Australia 3-5 August.
