The PMEL Carbon Group has been observing surface ocean CO₂ on ships and buoys in the Tropical Pacific Ocean since as early as 1982.  This expertise, through the participation of Drs. Sutton and Feely, is helping to guide the redesign of the Tropical Pacific Observing System (TPOS).  A first set of enhancements to TPOS were outlined in the 1^st report and highlighted in a new NOAA Research story available here.
